Rob Treich, head of public markets at London CIV, was invited by Room 151 to help investigate how LGPS pools plan to respond to rising rates and the needs to manage cashflows and income amid higher inflation.
Rob was joined by Gordon Ross, CIO at LGPS Central, Richard Tomlinson, CIO at LPPI and Joe McDonnell, CIO at Border to Coast - with the panel discussion led by senior business journalist Chiyo Robertson.
Key highlights during the discussion included:
- The growing importance of cashflow management for LGPS leading to increased demand for fixed income among partner funds
- With higher rates requiring a rethink around asset allocation, strategies need to go beyond just investing more in bonds and cash to capture a broad spread of opportunities in the public and private credit, as well as real asset markets.
- Infrastructure becoming an increasingly attractive asset class
The panel was part of Room151’s annual Investment Forum at the London Stock Exchange.
