26 Jun 2017 Hugh’s June blog
Welcome to my second blog of 2017, slightly later than planned, but perfectly timed to announce that we’ve broken through the £5bn of assets under management threshold with the opening of our Majedie UK Equity and Newton Global Equity sub-funds. There’s more on future fund opening plans and other updates below, but let me start with start with announcing our latest award.
You’ll be aware of the huge effort that went into our Global Equity procurement at the end of last year and the beginning of this. The sterling work of the team, led by Julian Pendock, Chief Investment Officer, and including colleagues from LCIV and across London, has been recognised by the accolade of the peer-nominated Institutional Investor Fund Selection Team of the Year award. While we’re not trophy gathers, to have all the hard work recognised in this way is a great achievement.
Late last week, we had the welcome news that the FCA had approved our Longview Global Equity and Henderson Emerging Markets sub-funds (see this news story for more details). We’re working now to prepare our Global Equity Income and Sustainable Equities sub-funds for launch in September and have had encouraging levels of interest shown following the meet the managers’ day so expect the funds to have significant assets invested right from the off.
We welcome three new members of staff; Larissa Benbow joins us as our Fixed Income Manager, and Dominique Kobler as our Chief Risk Officer. Both bring a wealth of experience to the team at a vital time in our development. In a slightly different way we also welcome Chloe Crouch as a permanent member of the team, having been working with us for several months on a temporary contract. Chloe takes up the first of our two Client Relations Executive roles, and we’ll be advertising for the second shortly.
We’ll be making a number of significant hires over the coming months. Vacancies are placed on our website and we welcome applications from anyone who believes they have the necessary skills and experience to fill a role.
London CIV, like other pools, submitted a progress update to DCLG in April. A copy of our update was circulated widely but if you haven’t seen it a summary of our key concerns is available here along with a link to download the full document.
Seminars and workshops
We are working on delivering a series of events over the rest of year for members and officers to provide updates and access to sub-fund managers. There’s more information on the seminar themes here.
So, depending on whether you go by the meteorological or astronomical seasons, summer has started or starts in the next few days, either way I hope you have a great summer and I’ll aim to get my next blog out in the early autumn.
